TextWise Site Similarity tool

This is a great tool and quite unlike anyhting I have seen. It is similar to calais (the engine behind zemanta, from reuters) in its operation, but the technology is fundamentally different. The API is called SemanticHacker.
The way it works is by ranking text or html against a series of categories, called vectors. You can download the software and create your own vector matching engine. Using the API, you can generate a "semantic signature" from any text or web page. This is an xml file containing membership values over vectors that match the text. Once you have two signatures, you can submit these to the API which will give you a similarity ranking. So the software enables applications to map similar content, to place content into relevant categories, and to generate meta-tags describing concepts in the text. There are wordpress plugins for download, and a widget you can embed. The wordpress plugin is great because it allows you to link similar content accross the web giving more value to your users. It can auto-suggest categories, images and videos. The widget shows similar content for news, blogs, video and wiki for your site.
There are a few other applications as well; my favorite is called Gyzork the smart bookmark. A Gyzork is and rss feed comprised of similar articles, derived from a single web page or blog. The feed will grow as the crawler discovers similar ranked content. So this is a great tool if you own a blog or website, and its free.
